This run took us from the BP servo at Calder Park, to the top of Mt Macedon via Riddell Creek, and then on to lunch at the Gisborne Peak Winery.
Our planned route was to avoid the Calder Highway, and travel on the sealed “C” Roads in the district.
Our small travelling group was pretty much the same as our Kilmore group, consisting of Joe and Joyce Farsaci & Elaine, Scott and Penina Booker as well as Valda Webb her daughter Melissa and two grandchildren (Modern), Rob and Anne Quinn (Morris Minor Ute), Bill Flaherty (Morris Minor).
Departing at 10:15am from the BP servo we headed to the Sunbury turn off, at Diggers Rest, and then to Riddell Road for a straight run to the Riddell Creek area then took Hamilton Road directly through to Mt Macedon Road to turn right, and head up the mountain.
On the run up the mountain, Bill encountered a little drama with his beloved “OL 55”, it was refusing to go any further than half way up the slope.
After Bill pulled over and gave “OL 55” a little rest, he fired up again, and made it to the top after a little vigorous use of the gearbox.
It should be noted, that the climb up Mt Macedon can be very steep, and will test out any classic car and some moderns. Some areas have a gradient of 1:14.
There was a cold wind blowing at the Memorial Cross, but we all had the right gear on, so it wasn’t too bad. Check out the photos.
We had intended to have morning tea at the “Top of the Range Tea Rooms” which were very busy, but opted instead to head off to Gisborne Peak Winery.
It was an easy run down the back side of the mountain and on to Gisborne Peak Winery via Woodend.
The winery accommodated us in the heated marquee set out over the farm dam, they provided some very nice nosh, from their wood fired ovens.
If you haven’t been to Gisborne Peak give them a go, great wines, try the excellent white called “The Duet”.
The run home was via the Calder Highway.
Can we just mention a great deal of time and effort goes into selecting and planning these events and outings it would be really fantastic if we could see more members attend our outings.
Thanks heaps to all that attended.
Kind Regards Elaine Booker, Joyce Farsaci, Anne Quinn
